Ivan Filletti

GamingMalta CEO Ivan Filletti has called for ‘RESPECT’ towards the iGaming industry, referring both to the word itself and an acronym featuring some of the qualities the industry subscribes to.

He detailed the concept in an event last week held by The Malta Chamber in collaboration with GamingMalta, marking 20 years since Malta’s iGaming industry kicked off.

The acronym represents the following qualities which Mr Filletti says the industry subscribes to on a daily basis and which he adds GamingMalta ensures this message is communicated “with missionary zeal” across different audiences and stakeholders:

Responsible gambling
Entertainment
Speed
Professionalism
Enhanced due dilligence
Consistency
Talent

He expects that these factors will help improve the reputation of Malta’s iGaming industry for those not currently a part of it.

The first element of this – responsible gambling – helps remove some of the stigma around the general gambling industry while also ensuring that players are kept safe, which is a priority both for those in and outside the industry.

The industry’s value providing entertainment is naturally important for GamingMalta, but its speed is a particular highlight, showing the sector to be on the cutting edge of technology.

At the onset of the pandemic, Mr Filletti reflects that within 48 hours, the vast majority of iGaming firms were back up and running remotely.

A number of the other elements, including enhanced due diligence, responsible gambling, and professionalism are important for much more pragmatic reasons.

The visibility of these traits is important for the iGaming industry to escape some of the other prejudices that it faces – especially relating to difficulties accessing banking services.
